City of Lynchburg to Host Pop-Up Event for US 501/US 221 Intersection Improvement (Split Pair) Project
The City of Lynchburg’s project team along with the Economic Development and Tourism Team is inviting the public to a special pop-up event focused on the US 501/US 221 Intersection Improvement (Split Pair) Project. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., beside the Petco store at 3901 Old Forest Road, in the Lakeside Crossing Shopping Center. (Rain date is Thursday, October 23rd, same place and time.)
This informal, drop-in style event is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to keep the community informed and involved in the project. The City’s project team is excited to partner with the Economic Development and Tourism Team because they play an important role in outreach to the business community. Whether you’re just learning about the improvements or want to explore the details, this is a great opportunity to connect directly with the City’s project team.

July 29, 2025, Project Information Meeting
A Project Information Meeting was held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Fire Station #7. Representatives from the City and the consultant project team led by McCormick Taylor, Inc. were there to provide updates about the project, meet with members of the community, and answer questions. A two-week comment period was held following the meeting. Project mapping and other meeting materials are available to view below.

The City, along with VDOT and the consultant project team, is committed to delivering this important project for the citizens of Lynchburg. An important part of that commitment is reflected in the project’s public engagement strategy. The outreach efforts for this project are focused on keeping the community informed and meaningfully engaged throughout the project development process. Information regarding meetings, pop-up events, FAQs, and more will be shared via our website, media outlets, emails, flyers, and social media posts.
This multi-pronged approach aligns with key project milestones and is designed to maintain open channels of communication, build public awareness, and ensure that community members are kept informed throughout the design process.
