Public Engagement
Late Summer 2026, Public Hearing
In keeping pace with the current project progress, community members will have the opportunity to review more detailed project plans and provide comments that will become a part of the formal project record at a Public Hearing which is tentatively expected to be held late this summer. Additional details such as the date, time and location of the Public Hearing will be shared closer to the meeting date. Attendees will be able to view project engineering plans that are 50-60% complete.
October 22, 2025 Pop-Up Event Was a Success!
A pop-up event was held on October 22, 2025, at the Lakeside Crossing Center beside Petco from noon to 4 p.m. This event was an informal drop-in format open to anyone with an interest in the US 501 and US 221 Split Pair Intersection Improvement Project. Of the individuals that stopped by – the majority did not attend the Project Information Meeting (PIM) held this past July; two individuals were new to the area, and a few University students stopped by as well. Pop-up participants were also invited to complete a questionnaire, and to rank the planned safety features that are included in the new intersection design. This event was part of the City’s ongoing efforts to keep the community informed and involved in the project. To view the information shared at the event and event photos, click on the links below.

Outreach Efforts
The City, along with VDOT and the consultant project team, is committed to delivering this important project for the citizens of Lynchburg. An important part of that commitment is reflected in the project’s public engagement strategy. The outreach efforts for this project are focused on keeping the community informed and meaningfully engaged throughout the project development process. Information regarding meetings, pop-up events, FAQs, and more will be shared via our website, media outlets, emails, flyers, and social media posts.
This multi-pronged approach aligns with key project milestones and is designed to maintain open channels of communication, build public awareness, and ensure that community members are kept informed throughout the design process.
